Place Your Bed in the Optimal Position

One of the most critical elements of a Feng Shui bedroom is the placement of the bed. According to Feng Shui’s principles, your bed should be in a “commanding position,” which means that you look towards the door while in it but that the bed is not directly aligned with the door. Make sure that your feet don’t point directly out towards the door, and make sure your bed has a suitable headboard to ensure your bed fits seamlessly into your room. To truly embrace Feng Shui, this headboard should not be on a wall with a toilet on the opposite side.

Add a Nightstand on Each Side of the Bed

There is also a “rule of two” when it comes to Feng Shui – think two pillows, two lamps, and two nightstands; This is because Feng Shui embraces harmonious and loving energy, even if you sleep alone! Symmetry is vital with Feng Shui, which is why you need a nightstand on each side of your bed to provide balance, not to mention a convenient place to put your phone and bottle of water at night.

But contrary to what you might initially think, these two nightstands don’t have to match. It’s totally acceptable to have un-matching nightstands just as long as they complement each other. Embrace the Beauty of Skin Tone Hues

For Feng Shui bedroom colours, stick to earthy, neutral and skin tone hues. The shades can range from off-white to dark brown, but keep them somewhat subdued and relaxing. Feng Shui bedrooms are designed around what you need emotionally, but since that can change at any time, it’s a safe bet to stay pretty neutral and not go too bold with your bedroom colour choices – at least for the bedroom walls.

Then you can feel free to add some personality to your bedroom Feng Shui design by adding touches of colour to the accent pieces, such as bedding, throw pillows and artwork. With those elements, choose your colours wisely based on your life goals and what you want to focus on right now. For example, green colours direct you towards prosperity and greater health, while shades of red symbolize fame and recognition. By adding yellow accent pieces to your bedroom, you bring in the energy of relationship-building, while blue colours may help you focus on your career and life’s purpose. If you’re interested in attracting a new partner into your life, peach and pink hues are a good choice. Just take some time to think about what colours you are naturally attracted to before making a significant commitment to just one colour scheme.

Be Strategic with Mirror Placement

While some Feng Shui masters recommend avoiding mirrors entirely in the bedroom, many others advise you to choose your mirror shapes and placements very wisely to achieve inner peace. In general, avoid placing mirrors within the sightline of the bed so that you do not see yourself while lying in bed. Seeing yourself at night is known to cause sleeping troubles. Instead, place a mirror that reflects something that you enjoy looking at when you can see it from the bed, such as a piece of artwork.

The shape of your mirror also makes a difference with Feng Shui. Choose an oval or circular mirror (instead of a square or rectangular one) to symbolize and promote healthy relationships and continuity. Keep your sleeping area simple and low-tech with perhaps nothing more than an alarm clock and a single paperback book that you’re currently reading on the nightstand

Just because you’re trying to keep things simple with your Feng Shui bedroom décor doesn’t mean that you can’t decorate your walls with beautiful and inspiring pieces of artwork!
